[Crysis 2] - Three Cevat Yerli Interviews
Welcome to a Crymod news post regarding three recent interviews that Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli took part in at E3, where Crysis 2 was recently announced to continue the flagship Crysis franchise onto not only PC but 360 and PS3. This decision caused a lot of worry from the community about what was being delivered to both the PC and to the consoles, so try and dispel this Cevat has explained the move over a series of three interviews, which we're going to present tomorrow.
IGN Interview
Just before the EA press conference when Crysis 2 was officially announced by Cevat, IGN's Jason Ocampo got hold of both Cevat and EA Partners head David DeMartini to talk about the title. The key quotes are shown below, with the full article available at IGN here.

Crysis 2 is being built on the company's new CryEngine 3 technology, which it showcased at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco earlier this year. Yerli explained that the CryEngine 3 was a significant breakthrough for the company. He said that it's capable of scaling performance considerably, so he maintains that the PC version of Crysis 2 will look far better than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. At the same time, the console games will be as state-of-the-art as possible for those platforms.
"We don't need to dumb down the game; the technology provides all the horsepower we need to make a kick-ass 360 game, a kick-ass PS3 game, and push the PC gaming forward still," Yerli said. |
| quote: |
| When asked if that sounded like a contradiction, he responded that you have to think of technology as a tool that can scale. He said the game's content scales to the platform it's on. "The PC version will look better, because of the fact that the PC can do more. It will be scaling up. But on the consoles, you're competing with console games," he said. "The goal is to be the best looking game on PS3 [and] the best looking game on 360 in the entire market." On the PC front, Crysis 2 will compete with the original Crysis, which still sets the bar for PC graphics. |
Gamasutra Interview
The day after the announcement where media hype was at its biggest, Cevat then spoke with Brandon Sheffield from Gamasutra. The key points of the interview are shown below with the full article available on Gamasutra here.
| quote: |
| Here, he was implying that Crysis 2, running on the company's new CryEngine 3 would almost max out the PS3's abilities. "There’s not much more you can do," he added, "and frankly the breakthrough was very recent, and otherwise we would’ve had a compromised strategy on the consoles, which we don’t have now. |
| quote: |
| Crytek is known for its technical excellence, and we also quizzed Yerli on his impressions of the differences between the two HD platforms. "I mean essentially the game we run is about the same," he said. "Probably one’s stronger on the GPU side, one’s stronger on the CPU side, so depending on what you’re doing where, the PS3 does perform here sometimes better, the 360 performs other things better, but overall by the time the game ships it’ll be absolutely the same." |
Develop Interview
Finally half way during E3 on Wednesday Cevat also spoke with Develop about the multiplatform capabilities of Crysis 2. The key quotes from the interview are shown below, with the full article available on Develop here.
| quote: |
Develop: Many have said that the CryEngine 3’s capabilities will be able to fully utilise PS3 hardware. Is this true, and do you feel Crysis 2 will be able to explicitly show a difference in hardware power between PS3, PC and Xbox 360?
Cevat: I believe with Crysis 2 both the PS3 and 360 versions of the game will perform to their limits, until there is no more water in the rock. As for difference, between Consoles and PC I see a difference. The PC version will outscale and outperform the consoles, between each console I believe the experience will be finally both next-generation, but similar experience. Our goal is not to look at it like PC versus 360 versus PS3. Our Crysis 2 team has a clear goal: make the most awesome, innovative, kick ass PC, 360 and PS3 shooter. Being best on each will put Crysis 2 in its place as the best FPS in general. |

well maybe the 3 month rule is in effect and we will see Crysis 2 around the same time Crysis came out 2 years ago?
maybe before the end of the year? or Q1 2010?
Unless they just started working on it?

Crysis 2 itself looks great, but my biggest worry is this - will CryEngine3 operate the same as CE2? Hopefully we won't have to re-learn the editor.
Crytek just became my favorite company (I know, it should have been before) - finally, someone appreciates the PC. Ya' hear that, consoles? WOOT!
Even the teaser vid; wow!

I hope in the multiplayer part will be a "kill-cam" and a simple votekick function
For the singleplayer i hope there will be a different type of alein ( not just a red scout) and a more terrain-involving gameplay
